The world's largest offshore wind power facility in terms of single-unit capacity, located in Fujian province and operated by China Three Gorges Corporation, has been fully connected to the grid and started generating electricity on Sunday, said the company.
Located about 35 kilometers offshore from Pingtan of Fujian province, the wind farm consists of 11 offshore wind turbine units, including the world's largest 16-megawatt offshore wind turbine unit. The total installed capacity of the wind farm reaches 111 megawatts, it said.
The wind turbine will generate around 360 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, which can replace around 103,800 tons of standard coal per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 283,800 tons, it said.
Lei Mingshan, chairman of the China Three Gorges Corporation, said the 16-megawatt offshore wind turbine is a breakthrough in the core technology of the offshore wind power industrial chain, and it will boost the sustainable development of the country's offshore wind power industry.
