Fuzhou will host the 2026 China Fuzhou International Investment Promotion Month and the 28th Cross-Strait Fair for Economy and Trade from May 21 to June 21. The event remains a key platform for regional investment and economic engagement between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

By the end of 2025, Fuzhou had approved 5,750 Taiwan-funded projects representing $13.68 billion in contracted capital. The inaugural 1994 event recorded 224 signed projects valued at $2.13 billion and drew 6,000 attendees from 22 countries and regions.

The initiative shifted its core focus to cross-Strait cooperation in 1999 and was formally renamed the Cross-Strait Fair for Economy and Trade in 2005. Key milestones include the launch of zero-tariff direct shipments for agricultural products from Taiwan in 2005 and a joint declaration between cross-Strait cities in 2008.

Fuzhou's investment strategy also shifted from traditional manufacturing to digital technology, biomedicine, and renewable energy. The city currently hosts more than 4,600 national high-tech enterprises, including an international offshore wind power testing field and a major liquid crystal display manufacturing base.

Current development frameworks prioritize industrial supply chain integration and research resources over the speed of initial project implementation. This shift has helped attract firms such as China Communications Construction Company, China State Shipbuilding Corporation, and Mercedes-Benz Group.
