Scentra, an olfactory rehabilitation device developed in Fujian province, has received the 2026 iF Design Award, a prestigious international honor recognizing excellence in product design and innovation. Developed by the brain-computer interface healing team at a subsidiary of Fujian Electronics & Information Group, the device integrates smart hardware with neuroscience to treat olfactory dysfunction.
The award highlights the growing importance of addressing sensory impairments, which impact food flavor perception, environmental safety, and emotional well-being. Scentra streamlines complex olfactory training protocols into a portable, automated system, enabling users to complete guided rehabilitation cycles independently. By digitizing traditional therapeutic methods, the project aims to make sensory recovery more accessible and intuitive for patients suffering from long-term loss of smell.
This international recognition validates the integration of medical technology with user-centric design, providing the market credibility Scentra needs as it moves toward broader commercial applications in the global wellness sector.
Established in 1953, the iF Design Award is considered one of the world's most influential design competitions. An independent jury of global experts evaluates entries based on functionality, innovation, and sustainability. For the 2025 cycle, nearly 11,000 entries were submitted from 66 countries, with fewer than one percent of participants securing a win.
