The Sanjiangkou Ecological Park in Fuzhou, Fujian province, has transformed a former flood-control area into a public waterfront space by combining wetland restoration and ecological conservation with recreational facilities.

Covering about 1,893 mu (126.2 hectares) along a 12-kilometer riverside belt, the park was designed around the concept of adaptive flood management and resilient coexistence between people and nature. Its development incorporated wetland restoration, sediment management, shoreline rehabilitation, and the preservation of industrial heritage.

The project restored wetland habitats by reconnecting water channels, rebuilt golden sandy beaches through sediment management, and retained former shipyard remains as cultural landmarks. These efforts have reshaped the area from a traditional flood-control zone into a multifunctional waterfront landscape.

Located at the confluence of the Minjiang River, Wulong River, and Majiang River, the park is part of broader environmental protection and restoration efforts in the Minjiang River basin. It has created an urban ecological barrier while improving biodiversity and expanding public access to nature.

The park features more than 40,000 square meters of sandy beach, wetlands, forest areas, and ecological corridors that provide habitats for birds and other wildlife.

It has seamlessly integrated preserved shipyard relics with sports and cultural activities, creating a bridge between its industrial heritage and modern public life. Since its opening, the park has become a popular destination for residents and a model for waterfront ecological renewal.
