The State Council has approved the establishment of the Xiamen Airport Comprehensive Bonded Zone, bringing the city's comprehensive bonded zones to three and expanding its bonded infrastructure across sea, land, and air transport.
As the city's first airport-type comprehensive bonded zone, it will be located in the Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport area and cover 1.05 square kilometers.
The two existing zones, the Xiamen Xiangyu Comprehensive Bonded Zone and the Xiamen Haicang Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone, recorded 172.88 billion yuan ($25.77 billion) in imports and exports in 2025, accounting for 94.2 percent of the total trade of Fujian province's comprehensive bonded zones and 18 percent of Xiamen's foreign trade, according to Xiamen Customs.
The new zone will use the airport's global air cargo network and its role as a gateway for cross-Strait exchanges to speed up customs clearance and international cargo distribution.
It will develop aviation-related businesses, including bonded aircraft maintenance, services for domestically manufactured aircraft and aircraft engine remanufacturing, as well as logistics and distribution services, bonded aviation materials trading, cross-border e-commerce, and aviation financial leasing.
The zone will also cover high-tech industries including next-generation information technology, new energy and new materials, life and health, aerospace information, and scientific and educational research.
