A delegation of the ruling coalition of the Maldives led by Mohamed Ameen, Senator of the People’s National Congress (PNC) and Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, visited Fujian from September 20 to 24.
On September 23, Governor Zhao Long met with the delegation in Fuzhou. He noted that Maldives was an important port of call on the ancient Maritime Silk Road, and Fujian is positioned as the core area of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The friendly exchanges between Fujian and Maldives are deeply rooted in history and have yielded fruitful results. He hoped the two sides will jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen cooperation in aviation, culture, tourism, and marine economy, and enhance friendly exchanges and people-to-people flows. Minister Mohamed Ameen proposed for greater cooperation in transport, culture, tourism, and marine fisheries for win-win outcomes.
Guo Ningning, Secretary of the CPC Fuzhou Municipal Committee, met with the delegation on the same day. She said that as a hub city of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Fuzhou stands ready to promote the twinning with Malé of Maldives, and work with the Maldivian side to pursue practical cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, industry, marine economy, culture, tourism, transport and connectivity.
The delegation visited Xiamen Public Service Center for Marine Economy, Xiamen Special Economic Zone Museum, Xiamen University, Xiamen Airlines, and Hongdong Fishery.
