A delegation led by Amb. Ewnetu, the new Ethiopian Consul General in Guangzhou, was in Fujian from May 17 to 19.

Vice Governor Guo Ningning met the delegation on May 17. She expressed Fujian’s readiness to work with Ethiopia to actively implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and strive to establish a closer relationship under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. She said that as Fujian is playing an active part in serving and integrating into the new development paradigm with domestic and international circulations reinforcing each other, it sees Ethiopia as an important gateway to the African market. It is hoped that both sides will work to explore the possibilities of opening air cargo lines, setting up overseas warehouses and expanding trade routes so that the Digital Silk Road and cross-border e-commerce can become an engine driving two-way trade. She called for closer exchanges in education, culture and tourism and between cities and peoples, and more practical cooperation in the fields of building materials, light industry, textiles, mechanical and electrical industry, and agro processing.

Consul General Ewnetu noted the good foundation and bright prospects for cooperation between Fujian and Ethiopia. He hoped the two sides will deepen cooperation in trade, industries, Covid- 19 response and share experience on poverty alleviation.

During his stay in Fujian,  Consul General Ewnetu also had talks with China Wuyi, Three Trees Group, Zijin Mining and other well-known companies on their investment and business development in Ethiopia.
