On May 17, China-Egypt Video Conference on Digital Education was held in Egypt, Beijing, and Fujian. Representatives of governments and businesses from both sides attended the meeting.

In the opening speech, Mr. Liao Liqiang, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt, noted that since the onslaught of the pandemic, China and Egypt have joined hands in the fight against the virus while scaling new heights in education cooperation. Chinese language has been included in pre-university schools in Egypt as a second optional language, and Chinese companies represented by NetDragon have successfully launched into the Egyptian market, marking deeper cooperation between the two countries in digital education.

Dr. Tarek Shawki, Minister of Education and Technical Education of Egypt, said that ten schools have been identified to teach Chinese from next school year, and NetDragon will be supported in building the digital platform for Chinese teaching. Egyptian Ministry of Education will also take a step further to promote Chinese learning via TV channels and social media.

Mr. Chen Ronghui, Director-General of the Office of Fujian Provincial Leading Group for the Development of Digital Fujian, gave an introduction on Fujian’s latest development in digital economy and hailed digital education as the new driver of bilateral education cooperation.

The virtual conference is a follow-up event on the China (Fujian) – Egypt Online Conference on Digital Education held last September.
