Fujian and Nova Scotia Sign Sister Province Agreement
Fujian twinned with Nova Scotia via video link on December 21, making it Fujian's first sister province in Canada. At the signing ceremony hosted Vice Governor Guo Ningning, Governor Wang Ning and Premier Stephen McNeill signed the agreement, witnessed by Chinese Ambassador to Canada Cong Peiwu and Canadian Ambassador to China Dominic Barton.
In his speech, Wang Ning appreciated Premier McNeil’s support in developing relations with China and underscored the strong partnership between the two provinces over the years, in particular after the signing of letter of intent in May 2018. McNeill recalled happily his visit to Fujian and reaffirmed Nova Scotia’s commitment to cooperation with Fujian. Both sides agreed to take the signing of the agreement as an opportunity to build closer ties in business, trade, education, culture, art and tourism.
Both Ambassadors applauded the governments of both provinces for the vision and pragmatism to enhance friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation in spite of difficulties in bilateral relations, and believed that Fujian-Nova Scotia partnership will inject positive energy to China-Canada relations.
Heads of relevant departments, including the foreign affairs office, commerce, education, culture and tourism also attended the event. Mutiple MOUs were also signed by universities and businesses from both provinces.
