ASEAN-Fujian Friendship Provinces/Cities Conference Concludes with Success

A virtual conference aimed at enhancing joint response against Covid-19 and mutually beneficial cooperation between Fujian and its ASEAN sister cities were held on September 16. The one-day event was composed of three topical fora on cooperation in industrial capacity, tourism and epidemic control in the morning, a governors’/mayors’ forum and an online signing ceremony in the afternoon and an online concert in the evening. Around 680,000 people watched the live broadcast.

Governor Wang Ning, Vice Governor Guo Ningning, together with over 200 participants, including leaders of ASEAN sister provinces and cities, heads of relevant departments and business representatives attended the governors’/ mayors’ forum and the signing ceremony. Wang highlighted the support and assistance China and ASEAN countries extended each other in the fight against Covid-19 and proposed to deepen exchanges and cooperation between Fujian and ASEAN partners in public health, trade and investment, and people-to-people ties. Leaders of the sister cities reached common understanding on strengthening belt and road cooperation and building a community of a shared future.

A joint statement on boosting cooperation between Fujian and its ASEAN sister cities were released later at the forum. 18 cooperative documents were signed at the online signing ceremony.
