During September 24 to October 2, a 5-member Tasmanian delegation from Australia, headed by Ms. Janet Everett, President of Australia-China Friendship Society (ACFS) Tasmania Branch, visited Fujian.

On the evening of September 27, the delegation attended the reception for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China hosted by Fujian Provincial People’s Government. Vice Governor expressed her greetings to the delegation at the reception.

Before the reception, Ms. Everett received an interview by Fujian TV. She set out that her every visit to Fujian makes her deep impression on Fujian’s fast development. The more convenient transportation and more beautiful environment she sees during this visit renew her understanding of Fujian. In recent years, she has seen more people from Fujian in Tasmania for traveling, studying, and doing business. She and her colleagues will continue to be committed to promoting Tasmaina-Fujian friendship and cooperation in such fields as education, people-to-people and tourism.

On September 26, FAO Director-General Wang Tianming met with the delegation. Mr. Wang reviewed the fruitful outcomes we have achieved since Fujian and Tasmania established sister province/state relations in 1981. He expressed his gratitude to ACFS Tasmania for its contribution to promoting the friendship between the two sides. He looked forward for even brighter future of the friendship.

During the trip the delegation visited Xiamen, Fuzhou, Nanping, Quanzhou, and Longyan, and learned better about Fujian’s progress on urban and rural development, infrastructure, ecological conservation, cultural heritage protection, private economy, and targeted poverty alleviation. The delegation members said that the development miracle China has achieved over the past 70 years as well as Fujian people’s hospitality and hardworking spirit leave them a very deep impression. They would be happy to tell what they saw during the trip to their friends at home, and would like to do more to promote Tasmania-Fujian friendship.
