Vice Governor Li Dejin Meets with Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil
On January 31, Vice Governor Li Dejin met in Fuzhou with a Canadian delegation led by Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil and briefed the guests on Fujian’s latest socio-economic development.
Fujian and Nova Scotia share similarities in geographical location and resource endowment, and have much to offer each other on economic front. The business departments of both sides should step up contacts and work on realizing that potential. Xiamen University and Saint Mary’s University have already established cooperative relations. So has Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University(FAFU) with Dalhousie University and Mount Saint Vincent University. The two provinces should build on these partnerships to increase exchanges among teachers, students and researchers. Efforts should also be advanced for a greater two-way flow of tourists.
McNeil commended Fujian’s development success and looked forward to deeper cooperation with Fujian. He hoped that a direct flight between the two provinces will be launched to intensify bilateral cooperation in trade and tourism as well as people-to-people ties. All these efforts will boost trade in seafood and fruits like blueberries, and enhance the understanding of each other’s history and culture.
Strategically located on Canada’s east coast, Nova Scotia is an important gateway to the Atlantic Ocean with an area of about 55,490 km2 and 945,800 residents (2016 census). It boasts a long history, rich cultural heritage, abundant oil and gas reserves, mineral deposits, fishery resources, as well as well-developed agriculture and forestry.
